Distinctive Mid-Century Luxury

Darkness as a form of welcome

Mid-century modern is one of the most referenced aesthetics in contemporary interiors. This house takes that language and pushes it into a darker territory, richer materials and bolder contrasts. Dark walnut panelling establishes an architectural rhythm, while amber-toned textured glass filters the light into an atmospheric glow. Sculptural marble, bronzed brass and expressive patterned rugs introduce layers of contrast, balancing the strength of the architecture with sensuality.

Each piece, designed by Joana Santos Barbosa, contributes to a composition where materials, proportions, and light create a distinctly contemporary interpretation of mid-century elegance.

An interior where darkness is not an absence of light, but an invitation to experience it differently.

Entrance Hall | First impressions that last

Dark, intimate and unapologetically sophisticated. The entrance sets a seductive tone, where rich walnut panelling, subdued lighting and sculptural details create an atmosphere of quiet decadence. Beyond the glass doors, a secluded courtyard offers a glimpse of serenity.

The Pianist console, in Calacatta marble and bronzed brass, meets the voluptuous curves of the Powell mirror, sculpted in Estremoz marble and polished bronzed brass. Against the architectural rigour of the space, their contrasting forms introduce an irresistible tension between strength and sensuality.

A Symphony fur bench with a rustic oxidized brass base adds a touch of indulgence, while a bold geometric rug and casually placed fashion accessories evoke the glamour of a private retreat.A first impression that lingers, where luxury reveals itself through contrast, texture and a hint of provocation.

"Dark, intimate and unapologetically sophisticated.
A distinctive take on mid-century luxury, where sculptural furniture and rich textures come together in an elegant balance."

Dining Room I Dine after dark

As the glow of amber glass meets the richness of dark walnut, the dining room reveals a more seductive side of mid-century elegance. Deep chocolate tones, soft velvet and brass accents create an intimate atmosphere, made for conversations that linger.

Taking centre stage, the Fernandine dining chairs embrace the table with their generous scale. Handcrafted in Portugal, their sumptuous velvet upholstery and bronzed brass details bring a quiet sense of decadence to the room.

Behind them, textured glass gently diffuses the light, wrapping the space in an inviting warmth where bold design and understated glamour come together.

Dressing Room | Behind closed doors

The dressing room reveals a more intimate side, where everyday rituals become moments of quietness. Edgy ceramic tiles, glowing amber glass and polished marble create a seductive setting inspired by the elegance of mid-century interiors.

Taking centre stage, the Alentejo Square mirror stands out for its unconventional shape and craftsmanship. Its distinctive design challenges traditional mirror silhouettes, bringing artistic details to the vanity.

Beneath it, a custom-size Tree Branches fur bench celebrates the era’s femininity and playful glamour. Its soft, voluptuous form contrasts with the room’s strong geometric lines, completing a space where bold design, tactile materials, and vintage-inspired elegance come together.
